This past August, I did my first half-marathon. It was a trail run that took me about 4 hours and 14 minutes which wasn't bad for someone who just started running this year.
Next year, I'm signed up for the 50K which is around 30 miles. After that, I may consider the 50-mile run and then the 100-mile run.
Personally, I've fallen in love with trail running and long runs.
How about you all? Any runners out there? Do you enjoy running longer distances?

Re: Long Running
Honestly I've never been a fan of running lol. I prefer to get my exercise by walking or biking. (Which I admit it's been a while since I've done either.) It's cool that you've got a passion for long running though!

That's how I was at first.Ravenfreak wrote: Fri Oct 03, 2025 10:39 pm Honestly I've never been a fan of running lol. I prefer to get my exercise by walking or biking. (Which I admit it's been a while since I've done either.) It's cool that you've got a passion for long running though!
Hated running but love hiking and cycling.
Then I tried trail running and fell in love with it. But I still hate road and treadmill running and have no interest in it.

Re: Long Running
I had to start out doing a smaller run like a 5K. Then I increased to a 10K. Then I went up and up, etc.
Start out small and do that until it's easy and then repeat as you add more miles.
You might even start out with 1 mile or half a mile and go from there.

Too many beginners want the gold really fast.Demon_skeith wrote: Thu Oct 09, 2025 5:48 amTrue, I need to start small and work my way up to something.HikerShawn wrote: Wed Oct 08, 2025 6:14 pmI had to start out doing a smaller run like a 5K. Then I increased to a 10K. Then I went up and up, etc.

Like with anything really, we should all have smaller goals so that we can enjoy quick wins. Quick wins will boost your confidence to get better.
Run a half a mile or a quarter of a mile until you can do the whole thing. Celebrate your win. Then gradually increase.
