Have you ever cut out toxic family members?
Was there a time in your life where you needed to cut off a toxic family member? I've done so, but I'm sort of regretting this a little bit. I really want to get back into contact with my aunt who is sick, but she lives with my grandmother who I cut ties with. I know she wouldn't accept my true self, and I haven't seen nor talked to her in almost 16 years. So it would be awkward to come over to her house just to see my aunt and ignore her.

Yep, and I've done it with no problem since they weren't very nice.

I have.
My aunt and her daughter and a cousin.
It's because they commit crimes, use narcotics, and steal if they get a chance to. I want nothing to do with them or that sort of activity. I would even turn them into law enforcement if I saw them doing wrong.

I don't blame you for wanting to stay away from them. I also would turn in family members if I seen them breaking the law, because I would want them to get help and also they shouldn't get away with breaking the law.HikerShawn wrote: Thu Oct 09, 2025 7:14 pm I have.

When your father is nothing but a grumpy old man who gets angry for no reason just because you unintentionally accidentally do something.
When I was learning to drive and only learning basics he screamed "JUST STOP STALLING THE ENGINE AND DO IT SLOWLY WILL YOU."
Another occasion I made a little joke about switching tyres for my Dad's Mitsubishi Pajero 4WD with my Mum's small Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback imagining reversal of tyre sizes as a joke – he gets grumpy with "DON'T BE SILLY, GROW UP AND ACT YOUR AGE AND STOP BEING SUCH A BABY."
Another occasion I got up 5:30am about to have breakfast before the shower before school years ago – he gets cranky with "Get back to your bed – it's far too early, and do what you're told."

Man I'm sorry you had to deal with a father that abused you. When my wife first was learning how to drive, her dad freaked out at times too and it made her super anxious. She eventually got her license but she probably would have got it sooner than she did if he didn't treat her like garbage. I take it you don't talk to your father anymore?OMNIVOR wrote: Tue Oct 14, 2025 2:56 am When your father is nothing but a grumpy old man who gets angry for no reason just because you unintentionally accidentally do something.
