Weight-Conscious Supplements

Post by HikerShawn »

When I go cycling, running, and hiking - I take a lot of supplements for amino acid replacement, electrolytes, and fuel.

I eat gels, gummies, trail bars, and electrolyte mixes for my water.

I think it's important to note that we bigger folks who are trying to lose weight need to watch what supplements we take because those too have fat, sugars, and calories that could hurt us in the long run.

Are there any special brands that you all go for in terms of being less fattening for athletes? I'd love to see what everyone is using these days. healthier alternatives.

I need to look into more electrolyte mixes for my water as I seem to be low on it these days.

I really like NUUN electrolytes. You can get them everywhere. They have a good taste, too.

LMNT is good too but kind of expensive. It's pretty much flavored salt but it will give you what you need.

I mainly use them for hot hiking, any trail running, and cycling when it's hot or I'm riding more than 20 miles.

I usually like to eat Cliff Bars whenever I need to eat something after working out. Though I wonder if there's better snacks for me to eat.

I have tried to eat those.

Problem is there is too much and it's hard to chew it all up and swallow it. I'll usually have to go through a lot of my water just to get it down.

Have you tried the mini bar versions of it? How are they?

I thought I was the only one that struggles to chew them lol. I just deal with having to chew them for a bit. The mini bars are good, it's been a while since I've had those kind though.

Yeah. They've always been too much for me.

I eat Kate's real food mini bars. They have a good taste and are really easy to eat.
