How do I stop being hard on myself for mistakes?

Post by Dorothy »

I have come to learn and realized that mistakes don't define me. Self blame only delays my learning process in so many ways and as such, I try to reframe mistakes as lessons instead of failures and such kind of attitudes help me build self-confidence.

I also come to the realization that I can only progress when I shift focus from punishing myself to understanding the situation. Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, I try to take a passionate view of the situation and it opens doors for personal freedom and improvement.

Overtime, I have learnt to stop criticizing myself. I say to myself often that it's normal to make mistakes as I grow. You need to be self-compassionate and talk to yourself in kind words. These will help you to be kind to yourself.

Stop thinking of the mistakes you have made, instead, use them as a way of learning. Stop blaming youself as no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes irrespective of how they look.

In order to avoid being hard on myself because of mistakes, I consider those mistakes as lessons and never a failure. That changes my focus entirely. Talking to myself as I could talk to a friend has also been very helpful.

I still struggle with this. I constantly play the mistake over and over again in my head, which doesn't help me get over it. At times I have to continue to remind myself that I'm only human and that we all make mistakes.
